mSemicon is involved in many energy applications, mostly at the consumer voltage level. This is driven by the continuous transition to smart grids, including smart homes as well as the increased penetration of renewable energy. Products developed and supplied by mSemicon include power meters, heating control systems, lighting solutions, inverters and more.

Rethinking Buildings

Buildings are no longer passive energy consumers. With the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) as a framework, and its focus on smart readiness, mSemicon has been developing and supplying solutions that turn built structures into efficient, responsive systems. Modelling become easier with mSemicon. Our expertise in power electronics - from HVAC to lighting controls - allows us to fine-tune energy use where it matters most.

The Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) measures how well a building interacts with the energy ecosystem. We help improve SRI scores through smart metering, IoT sensors and sophisicated control systems on critical loads, as functional tools that deliver measurable efficiency gains.

Metering Power

mSemicon has recenty introduced the versatile single-phase AD5510 power metering system. This is a DIN-rail mountable electricity meter for use in residential and light commercial buildings. It is a super versatile WiFi-enabled device, featuring endpoint programmable IP addressing, a programmable dynamic reporting interval (down to 1 second) and dual-channel measurement. It has been developed as part of the Horizon 2020 funded AutoDAN project. This offering is currently being expanded into a wider family, with a three-phase version imminent.

HVAC, Lighting, Motion Control

Heating is one of the larger loads in a typical home, so it is often the focus of energy optimisation. In addition to monitoring consumption, mSemicon - in collaboration with industry players - has developed technical solutions that have reduced the overall demand for energy in domestic heating systems.

Lighting technology continues improving, especially with the steady increase in LED efficiencies. mSemicon has developed multiple lighting products, including monitoring systems for lights. This has covered domestic lighting as well as street lighting.

mSemicon has a long history in motion control systems, having developed inverters for asynchronous as well as brushless permanent magnet motors. This was the company's original business, and is what led it to grid related issues through such as power quality.

Research with Purpose

Collaborating with industry and academic partners, mSemicon works on projects that push energy technology forward - battery storage, grid flexibility, blockchain applications - always with a focus on practical, deployable solutions. Our background in power electronics ensures that these innovations aren’t just theoretical.
